Wavy Alabaster

Hi.

Welcome to my open journal. Read, sip and stay awhile. Cheers.

Words are my therapy, my release, my way of communicating moods and putting thoughts into motion. Me. Me. Me. No one, however, can refuse the unparalleled power of pictures, even myself. Photos can speak volumes over words. They allow the viewer, with one quick glance, to create his or her own story. These frozen moments in time may be styled to evoke a specific feeling, to steer the viewer down a particular path, but what one takes away from this visual representation is in the eye of the beholder and always will be.

I have done a couple shoots with the lovely Jenn Ott, photographer of the below pictures and some previous posts, and she has a keen eye for scouting locations. During our latest adventure, she found this eerie, stone staircase. It could have been easily overlooked. It was almost like the ivy was rapidly growing to cover this gem of a place, to keep it hidden, undisturbed. It had secrets it wanted to keep. As the sun set in this small nook of the world, on those shaded stone steps covered in lush ivy and neon yellow moss, we brought the light. Words were already arranged and pieced together for this outfit. All I had to do was hit post. Then these photos surfaced, and I had to let each capture have it's moment; let them speak for themselves.

Okay. I will just speak to the styling. Promise.

Meet my favorite flares. These velvet soft pants from Free People know no season. When you find a piece that feels so right, fits even better, and doubles up as pajamas, you say screw fashion rules (do fashion rules even still exist?) Yes, they are velvet, a typical fabric worn during the winter. They are a dark, ominous print which perfectly matches my mood in mid-January. But, I am exposing them to the warmth, showing them the sun and not apologizing for it.

When styling a piece that is out of its traditional season, less is more. This look is clean, simple.  Pair a white shirt with a dark print to brighten the outfit's attitude. Another Free People gem, this white button down shirt is light, textured and shapeless. These qualities give it a bit more personality than a crisp, fitted white button down. The over-sized, yet straight, fit compliments the slim, body-hugging shape of the pants. It's all about balance, folks. Slip on a pair of Birkenstocks, because it's the next best thing to bare feet, and keep the jewelry and accessories to a minimum.

Cheers, Jessa
