I was rockin' athletic wear before it had a swanky name and millions of dollars behind it. This age of athleisure was always present. Engulfed in sports most my life, I lived, along with my faithful friends and teammates, in the gym and on the field. Our joy was found between those out-of-bounds, those hand-chalked foul lines. Wearing and styling items that transitioned from lifting weights to grabbing late night bites at Round the Clock diner was an organic process, built from necessity. Sweatpants were cropped with scissors. Sleeves were removed from t-shirts with the remains becoming headbands. A marriage of Nike mid-length white socks and Adidas sandals were born.
Since those glory days, I have refreshed my style a bit when it comes to hitting the gym and any various lounging pursuits. It still carries a touch of masculinity (*cough* cut-offs tees); but now mixed with statement and style-driven pieces. These pieces, above all else, are functional. They have to be. Thanks to my friends at urbanfitco, my sportswear style continues to evolve and elevate.
Meet KC Kaluhiokalani (right of above photo), founder of urbanfitco, an online activewear boutique. This Pittsburgh-based, woman entrepreneur strives to provide her fellow sisters of all ages with comfortable, stylish, and fashion-forward activewear brands that can transition through all facets of their lives. KC is pretty inspiring. I would never had the guts to launch my own brand right out of the college gates. She has vision, which is beyond impressive for her age. More importantly, KC has relentless dedication and deep-rooted passion for useful and inclusive activewear that is going to make her vision a full-blown reality.
Since being introduced to urbanfitco's well-curated selection back in November, the lines between sweat time at the gym to coffee time with a friend, hiking in Frick park to shopping in The Strip, have been blurred.
